About the Work (entirely optional)

These questions are here only if you find them helpful for conveying your project’s aims and context. Feel free to answer some, all, or none — your submission will be evaluated the same either way.

Pitch (200–400 words) A concise overview of the project: its subject, shape, and stakes. Think of this as orientation rather than marketing copy.

Ambition statement What is the work attempting — formally, intellectually, or emotionally? Precision is more useful than grandeur. Does the work deliberately challenge or depart from any conventions? This might relate to form, structure, voice, genre, subject matter, etc. If restraint is the intention, feel free to say so. Influences or lineage (comma-separated, optional) Writers, works, or traditions your project feels in conversation with — simply as reference points. Anti-comparisons (comma-separated, optional) Works or styles a reader might mistakenly think this resembles. What might a cautious editor suggest cutting or changing? (optional) This is about self-awareness rather than self-censorship; many authors leave it blank.
